The formation of the ‘ 1922 Committee’, April 1923

One Hundred years ago, in April 1923 the ‘1922 Committee’ was formed by the Conservative Government to enable it to better co-ordinate and control its own Party, and thereby endeavour to retain its ‘popularity’ and hold on power.

In the last 6 months, Prime Minister Boris Johnson was replaced (accused by other Ministers of lacking focus, integrity, ideas, competence and vision), by Prime Ministers Liz Truss (forced to resign for a Budget that disastrously unnerved the Money Markets) and then Rishi Sunak, all through the 1922 Committee procedure with less than 200,000 UK Citizens, that’s less than – 1 Citizen in every 200 having any say in the matter. Those Prime Ministers then chose their Cabinets themselves. That is not a proper democratic process, in fact UK Citizens get much less say now than in 1780 when it was – 6 Citizens in every 200. Such is the power of the ‘1922 Committee’.

Government is seriously out of touch with its Citizens and their Businesses. Democratic Government is supposed to listen to the ‘will of the people’ and act accordingly. Democratic Government isn’t listening, Democratic Government isn’t functioning properly, Democratic Government isn’t Democratic.

The UK’s ‘constitution’ is unwritten but recognises 3 ‘independent power bases’ which are 1) Parliament, 2) Government Ministers and Civil Servants and 3) The Judiciary.

UK Citizens are seeking improvement, having justifiable concern with all three power bases.

Gone are the days of ‘Slavery and Serfdom’, although some choose not to notice. Every citizen must now have an ongoing say in the future of our Country for matters to improve.
Citizens2022Committee has been formed to enable it to address such problems and better co-ordinate and advance the ‘will of the people’.

IT’S TAKEN 100 YEARS! 1922 – 2022

One Hundred years on exactly, April 2023 marks the beginning of the ‘Citizens2022Committee’ (c22c), the need for which was conceived in July 2022 given the developing serious economic situation brought about by Government stumbling from one crisis to another without timely remedy and going to impact adversely on us all.

Citizens2022Committee aims to address the ratio of power that exists between the will of the people and the actions of our elected government. Sadly, there is much wrong. WE are already suffering from a seemingly uncaring Government inflicting hardship, with more to come. It’s going to get worse and you are invited to register your support as a Citizen now, without delay.

Government has record debt, falling GDP (income), serious inflation that is affecting all of us, an increasingly serious cost of living crisis, rising numbers of homeless, charity funded foodbanks, sky high energy costs, increased interest rates, with a great possibility that further rises might be not far away. They had no proper plan for BREXIT (according to a former PM) and are also failing in what this Government sees as their intended 5 Objectives – ‘HALVE INFLATION, GROW THE ECONOMY, REDUCE GOVERNMENT DEBT, CUT NHS WAITING LISTS AND ‘STOP THE BOATS’. BUT WHEN AND WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT?
NO MENTION OF CRIME, ESSENTIAL PAY RISES FOR KEY WORKERS, INFLATION MATCHING (or for anyone else) OR ‘REDUCING TAXATION’.

Is it just that Government have run out of money, or is decadence and lack of focused expertise and responsibility playing a part also?
There is also a dramatic difference between intention and attention.

Was the expenditure shown in the above video and utilisation of resources really necessary, and in late 2022 in just over a week, government data has shown the PM incurred costs of £500,000 in private jet trips for himself at the taxpayers expense. Not in the real world, when people are starving and mothers having to steal to feed their babies? (See SKY NEWS Report 16 May 23)

The NHS is on its knees and it’s not the only organisation. Most are just ticking-over at low-ebb, and like many small to medium businesses, fighting for survival, more than 300,000 have gone out of business since 2020. Most people support the current strikes, despite the damage they cause for WE understand their plight, being all in the same boat, all feeling the increasing pain, on our knees also and knowing that they are Government induced.

There are 1,200,000 full time employees in the NHS – all paid for by us, 80% from General Taxation, 20% from National Insurance Contributions (NIC), the other 80% of NIC goes towards our pensions and future pensions themselves are reputed to be in deficit. Is the retirement age going to be increased?
There are 563,000 full time teachers in Education – all paid for by us from General Taxation.

There are 500,000 plus Civil Servants – all paid by us from General Taxation.
All the above are paid from Government Department Budgets – the Government hold the purse strings. Not only have Government amassed record levels of unsustainable debt of circa £3,000,000,000,000 (3Tn GBP) during their tenure of Parliament, Government have also allowed pay to be eroded over the last 13 years in all these key groups and are therefore solely responsible for the current position. With many hospitals and schools in need of repair also. What have they spent this money on and with what ongoing justification?

There are 5,500,000 Trades Union Congress Members (including the above), with the Unions having been forced into ‘last resort’ strike action on behalf of their members by a non listening, dismissive government intent on pursuing delaying tactics for obvious reasons and a ‘divide and conquer’ policy.
There are currently circa 5,600,000 SME businesses (Small to Medium Enterprises) registered in the UK, having declined from 5,900,000 at the start of 2020. SME’s employ circa 16.3 million people. There are currently circa 7,700 Large Turnover Companies employing circa 10.6 million people and the latter account for just under half of the UK’s total GDP. All businesses are unavoidably suffering also, doesn’t Government realise businesses need customers with disposable income in order to prosper?

So what happens next? Currently there are not many ideal options if any!
Strikes and disruption could be ongoing.

Those striking could capitulate or be restricted by Government and WE could all suffer serious hardship for the next 20 years or more.
Employees could all ‘work to rule’ in key areas, a job action in which employees do no more than the minimum required by the rules of their contract or job. Such action born out of despair and would be a desperate measure.

The TUC could call a General Strike (although probably illegal) and that remains a possibility, but would clearly be disastrous in economic cost to the UK, already impoverished.

The UK just grinds to a standstill and Government tries to talk to the IMF.
WE could vote for an existing opposition party at the next election, with no guarantee that anything would change for the better (given existing power base constraints) if WE had no increased participation.

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN GOVERNMENT TAKE US FOR FOOLS. ARE WE TO CONTINUE BEING TAKEN FOR A RIDE? FOR A BETTER FUTURE, WE NEED A GREATER SAY IN OUR FUTURES NOW AND THIS CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED COLLECTIVELY. GOVERNMENT MUST LISTEN TO A ‘UNITED’ KINGDOM.

In addition to the TUC membership of 5,500,000 there are a further 27,500,000 in work and 12,000,000 in retirement, having worked a lifetime, all without a voice and suffering increasingly. All of us must unite. (See Participate)

Citizens2022Committee – has been formed by UK Citizens to enable greater influence on Government by its Citizens and Businesses.

Our purpose is to achieve improvement in Government for the benefit of all and the future prosperity of the United Kingdom, its Citizens, its businesses, its children both in the short and long-term, before it’s to late. WE aim to bring the UK Citizens ideas, expertise, concerns and voices to Government, Parliament, all MPs, Local Authorities and Local Councilors, more appropriately, constructively, without disruption when possible, within the Law but challenging the Law when necessary, as needs must and without limitation – for the benefit of all.

We seek a more open, better suited for purpose, productive, honest, transparent, accountable and efficient Government at all times, with power to redress the grievances of our Citizens past and present where they exist, holding Government responsible and ensuring that the ratio of power bestowed upon Government by the Citizens is proportionate – this will require change.

UK HAS A TOTAL POPULATION of 68 million in 2023.
33.0 million – Working
13.0 million – Under 18, (under the age of legal responsibility as determined by current Law)
12.0 million – Retired, (over the age of 65)
6.0 million – Economically inactive, (between the ages of 16 and 64 including early retirees and those unable to work or not wanting to work for other reasons).
2.5 million – With health issues.
1.5 million – Unemployed

How will c22c increase the Citizens influence?
The Citizens are the most important asset of any country. To prosper in the current era all Citizens need support throughout their lives and both their and the Countries needs met. Fairness and Care a prerequisite. Without collective support and focus neither the Country or its Citizens will prosper. Without its Citizens their will be no Country.

By becoming affiliated you are supporting the objective of a stronger democracy in which every citizen will have the opportunity to have their voices heard and concerns addressed. Your existing status and rights will remain unchanged whether you are retired, a Trade Union member or even an MP, c22c would aim to enhance rather than reduce the existing power of any such group and in becoming affiliated you are showing that you support a fairer, more responsible and caring and prosperous society for all.

c22c require both large numbers of Citizens to become ‘Affiliates’ and also funding to at least match the funding available to any political party. c22c will also seek to raise income and funds from other supporting philanthropic sources.

Any matter put forward will be treated in confidence and collated with like information and considered by a National Committee of 7 Members in each country of the UK, (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales).
In turn such matters will go before the c22c Executive Committee consisting of 18 Members with appropriate expertise.

Government has a legal obligation to raise and address any matters in Parliament which are made the subject of a petition with 100,000 signatures or more. c22c will petition Parliament on any such matter on behalf of UK Citizens or businesses. c22c will actively support Citizen grievances and add its full support to any issue that the UK Citizens or businesses support.

Currently, at the time of an Election, Political Parties write a ‘Manifesto’ (plan of their intended actions) which once elected has no legal bearing upon them and can be swiftly forgotten or modified without consultation. c22c believe that a ‘Citizens Manifesto’ should be produced at such time and adopted as closely as possible by the elected Party.

c22c will use all means at its disposal to seek ‘Fairness and Care’ at all times from Government, the Civil Service and Judiciary in all of their actions. Call for an end to draconian measures and seek changes in the Law where necessary, whether that be for individuals or businesses.

c22c pledges to support all Human Rights infringement issues, and for these and all other unaddressed matters of concern past and present, seek redress through legal challenges in appropriate Courts including ECHR.
Express a ‘Vote of No Confidence’ in Government should the Citizens believe it to be necessary.

As soon as possible provide a form of affiliation to c22c for those aged 16 & 17 years.

In the near-term connect with younger people aged 10 – 15 years also on matters relevant to their early life experiences.

c22c will monitor carefully to see which political parties align with c22c and support the expertise of UK Citizens and Businesses having a greater say in the running of the Country and it becoming a true democracy.

c22c will continue to support the existing ‘power base’ structure, (unless deemed otherwise) only seeking refinement and improvement of functionality.

Becoming an affiliate of the citizens2022committee may well be the best investment you ever make for £2.00 per annum – 4p per week!, in changing all our lives and wellbeing for the better, and that of future generations. With the ‘Affiliate get Affiliate Scheme’ this can be reduced to 1p per week! We have kept cost to the absolute minimum to enable all UK Citizens to get behind this initiative, it can’t be done for less.
